Whale shark advice needed please, i.e. Holbox and Isla Mujeres. Where to stay, etc
Due to heart bypass surgery 8 months ago I'm waiting until next summer before getting back to scuba, plus I want to get into better shape-dive-fit before going under-CAN NOT WAIT!!! So in the meantime I'm thinking of snorkling with whale shark this August. Do people recommend Holbox, Isla Mujeres, both or other places? Kindly provide me with info related to this as well as snorkling outfitters, hotels, sites, etc. Thanks much!!!aqua
We went out with these guys http://holboxwhalesharktours.com/ and had a great trip. I would highly recomend them. We went out of Cozumel on one of thier day trips, and it worked out good. As for other places to stay, maybe others can help out on that. I put a video on facebook that you can see here. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=...53172816273896 Good luck with your rehab, and hope your diving again soon.
Hi Aqua, I am going to Isla Mujeres to snorkel with the whale sharks. Whale sharks have been on my list for ages and this seems to a good bet for me to see them. This is a quicky cheap as possible trip so I am staying at a small place called Maria Leticia apartments. The big expenses will be the air into Cancun and the whale shark days at $150 each. I am as excited to do this as going on a dive trip. Isla Mujeres seems like a charming island and lots of places to spend your down time. Pam
Thanks doug, great you tube video, thanks pam, have a great trip!Aqua
We just got back from Isla Mujeres. I would choose IM over Holbox. The sharks close to Holbox are in green water. The blue water encounters will be pretty far from Holbox. It's also as much as 20 miles out from IM, which quite as far as Holbox.
We have stayed twice at Hotel Playa Media Luna. It's a modest hotel, but quite comfortable. They can arrange the whaleshark trip for you. We chartered an entire boat from them. IM is a nice little island. Far more laid back than Cancun, Cozumel, but much more civilized than Holbox.
