USVI _ St Thomas trip coming up...any tips or advice for diving there??
I am planning a trip to St Thomas in July, any advice or tips would greatly appreciated.
Who are you diving with? Are planning on heading to BVIs?
Some really good diving there -- it's just that most dive ops won't take you to the good places.
The ones that they do go to and are good -- my favorites are Cow and Calf -- not a fan of the champagne cork -- and Carval Rock -- even if I have to dig in to the sand to get around the cut.
Typical dive sites are Grass, Congo, Lovengo, Thatch. I hated the wreck of the General Rogers -- really going to see a toilet?
My favorite site is Tektite on the south side or a shore dive off St. John from one of the south side beaches (totally blanking on the name). Map says not to go there in rental car but that's what insurance is for! Eagle Shoal is nice cathedral.
For the BVIs, my fav of all time is the RMS Rhone -- Chris Sawyer does an amazing presentation on this wreck and its history. However, he takes out a cattle boat. He doesn't make you dive a cattle boat profile but you are on the boat with them all. Decent dive op. The Indians are a nice dive as is Spy Glass. We did a nice 90 minute dive at The End of the World and another 75 minute dive at Walter's Rock -- I may have that last name wrong.
6-Paq scuba is my favorite op from St. John but Colette's boat is out of commission. Chris Sawyer is decent with good photographer on board. There was a guy out of Red Hook that seemed to be an unsafe scam artist but I can't remember his name.
I'm sure there are plenty more dive ops on St. Trauma but I just don't remember them. I love St. John. I've been home 10 days! And I've been going there for 12 years!
