Another issue of interest: temperature! I couldn't find anything in the article regarding temperature, but that's a long time to be UW without exposure gear even in warm water!
The Gulf of Guinea looks fairly warm - 80-ish degrees, but that would still chill you after a few hours.
That is a way cool story!
