Mark Powell lecture on Solo Diving - includes info for all divers
Solo Diving: Coming Out of the Closet (Mark Powell presents LIDS 2012) http://vimeo.com/49259855# Mark Powell presents a lecture on the realities of solo diving at the London International Dive Show, 2012. Mark is presenting to a non-specialist/solo-diving audience and his lecture deals with various safety issues that impact upon 'regular' divers. Mark explains some history behind recreational solo diving, challenges certain misconceptions and provides a great deal of thought-provoking insights on the topic of dive safety within the buddy-system.
Interesting listen, it is thought-provoking. One thing he didn't mention was narcosis, a greater danger when solo since by its nature it may make you think everything's just fine. A buddy, even a "bad" one, might actually notice this. And an "average" one might know to bring you up 20 or 30 feet to try to clear it.
It didn't make me more enthused about actually diving solo, but it did make me think more about how often I'm on my own when I'm not actually alone.
