Would like 8 days in Cozumel again (last in 2001). Stayed at Allegro and used Dive Palancar (onsite) - they were really good. Any suggestions for a good hotel, with good food, good pools and a nice beach as wife and #1 son don't dive. Only #2 son and myself dive and we don't want a hole or bad dive experience. Recommendations on dive operators welcomed as well.
Allegro/Dive Palancar are still there. Any reason you don't wish to go back with them?
If you're just looking for a bit of a change, the Allegro's slightly grander sister property, theOccidental Grand Cozumel, is quite nice if you're into AI's and you can again dive with Dive Palancar.
Hello, Doc. You're still here after at least 15 years. I seem to recall you were planning a trip to Cozumel with rather experienced buddies back in the 90's (not sure of the exact year). Dive Palancar was very good, I was just hoping to do a different hotel for the non-diving wife and son. I'll dive with the other son and relax with the bubbles.
El cantil is very pricy but also very nice--they're condos. They have kitchens in the units plus multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, it's also close to town so it's easy to walk there.
I've heard decent things about Casa Del Mar--however I've never stayed there myself so I really don't know.
I was last at Scuba Club Cozumel, which has an onsite dive shop and can be an all inclusive (or you can opt for the lite option which allows you to go to town for dinner). The reason I suggest this hotel is because they have a beach they "built" for the guests which your wife and son might enjoy.
Those are just my 2 cents.
The Intercontinental el Presidente is a very nice hotel with a beautiful common space, a nice waterside restaurant, a modest beach, a gym and a spa. The onsite dive op is OK, but boats tend to be full, with divers of variable experience and competence. It is not downtown, so you need to take a taxi to get anywhere. I have stayed there twice and it's the hotel that is most like other hotels at resort areas that I have encountered in Cozumel.
You have an excellent memory, cuda. Been doing an EDG tp CZM anually since '94.

Have a dive circus.
I like Secrets - Aura. Wonderful food and accommodations. It is all inclusive. It's more expensive but they have a nice beach and there are non-diving activities.
Thank you all, but after much consternation, we are heading for the Riviera Maya instead and staying at Paraiso Lindo in Playa Del Carmen. I'm sorry for the false alarm! I'll post in the appropriate heading.
