Ride ride ride the wild surf--- not..

Well the swim and dive part of the remainder of my Florida getaway may get "surfed out".

Swim today off Stuart Beach was all I could handle in red- flag shore break (tho the lifeguard let me try it). And Saturday dive off Jupiter called off for same reason. Winds are gentle and weather nice, but surf from the distant mid-Atlantic storm is bad and getting worse over the next couple of days.

So will console myself with bike riding and bad golf (I'm good at that).

Not a total loss though since I did get in a 2-tank reef drift off WPB yesterday with Abernethys. It was lumpy on top with some surge below and about 70F, good simple fun and I was happy to get wet. A group of snowbirds from Michigan meant we had enough folks to make it a go.

So that's the news from wild surf country. Beautiful beach weather if you stay on the beach.

Your Cape Cod favorite really got surfed out. Sandwich Town Beach was severely eroded. We had waves over the dunes into the marsh in 8 places and the boardwalk is pretty much trashed.
There is a fine line between \"hobby\" and \"mental illness.\"

    Hey, Tom,

Don't forget about Phil Foster Park/Blue Heron Bridge. You can often dive there when it's too rough further out.

    Keep us posted.

    Cheers,
    Jim
I'm just here between dives unloading nitrogen, refilling tanks, and talking with buddies.

Excellent reminder! I've never done it and high tide there Monday is 8:40am so I'm going to give it a go. Only one air tank = cheap dive (my favorite kind).

Did you prefer the bigger west bridge or the smaller east one? Anyone else with Phil Foster tips? I've already picked Angie's brain but any further advice welcome.

I like both areas. However, the east bridge is more diverse and probably the best place to start if you are only going to do one dive.

    Keep us posted.

    Cheers,
    Jim

Vis was near-nil, Doc, but as I was a first-timer I chose to regard it an adventure rather than an ordeal, so I did lots of sand, sand, sand, compass, compass, compass, whoops!!--bridge piling, and some fish; repeat, repeat.

It was so fun, I even wrote a dive report. You can depend on me to choose, and describe, the most exotic locales ;-)
