Where to learn Deep Diving and Wreck Diving?

Hello,

I am a PADI certified scuba diver and would like to learn deep diving and wreck diving too. Can anyone suggest me near by places to learn these courses? I live in Richardson , Texas 75080.

I have been searching but could not find.

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful..

Site includes a search feature that gives more than a dozen names for TX. Some D2D members could prob. give recommendations on specific instructors.

Florida.
Suggest cavern or cave course first. Alternate kicks, lines, perfect buoyancy, use of lights to communicate. Good buddy/team skills.
Then Recreational trimix - East Coast of Florida or Florida Keys. Waste not your time on deep air.
Then Wreck diving - Florida East Coast, Gulf Coast, Keys.
perhaps visit the DecoStop and ask the same questions ?
IMO, there is Little need to dive deep. Nitrox or Recreational trimix + 1 deco gas will cover 98% of the wrecks you might want to visit.
Been diving 30+ years, including Bikini Atoll, and still haven't been below 200fsw.

midhun - Usually I answer these questions, "If you have to ask, you are not ready". How many dives do you have? Why do you need to dive deep? How about taking a PADI deep and Wreck courses for starters, then Nitrox. Have you checked into your local dive shops?

What Bobcat said. Get some experience that he mentioned. A lot of the guys on this board are techies and enjoy cave and other very narrow fields of diving expertise. The PADI deep, wreck and Ntirox courses will give you what you need to get started. Then, if you want to jump in the serious tech stuff, those guys can guide you where to go for training.

IMHO, gooing to the Fl Keys to get done what you need is a great place to start..

Hi Midhun,

I live in Plano and work in Richardson, so have some experience with several shops in the area.

It's not completely clear from your posting what your current experience level is or exactly how far you want to go. If you are already a diver and past the basic experience stage (100+ dives) trying to get into expedition level trimix diving (>300') - then I can name some instructors in the area, but you won't be able to complete the instruction locally because there isn't anything deep enough here. If you are simply looking for deep diver (up to 130') and recreational wreck diving, there are several shops as well as independent instructors in the area. Try googling "scuba instruction richardson texas"...

I think Emerald Seas is gone. Crazy Scuba (SDI/TDI shop), south side of 190 near Jupiter, has changed ownership but new people seem friendly and knowledgeable, may have some light tech instruction available. I'm a member of Adventure Scuba Divers Club (http://adventurediversclub.com/) associated with Adventure Scuba shop on south bound I75 service road north of Park - this is a full service PADI shop. They advertise tech instruction, but not sure that they actually do much. My favorite shop is We-B-Divin in Bedford - a long drive, but I DM for them anyway and they are expanding to PADI tech classes and opened a shop in Arlington as well. I took advanced nitrox and deco procedures with Terry Barlow who is an independent TDI instructor, used to have a shop called extreme scuba. Last time I looked at TDI website it lists shops but not independent instructors, however if you google "extreme scuba dallas" you can find him. Cindy Paris is another good independent instructor in the area - not into hardcore wreck and deep diving, more of a fun concierge "fish watching" instructor and overall nice lady. Cindy was safety diver when I took my deep class. Scuba goo (?) in Rockwall sells tech gear and tech classes - don't know a whole lot about them. Tiger scuba in Arlington will come up in google searches - they are no longer, but there number will connect you to We-B-Divin who is continuing the business in the same location.

Frankly, this area is awash with scuba shops and instructors. As I think about it - if you cannot navigate to a shop around here, I'd be nervous about getting lost in the "airplane" in CSSP!

Along the lines of what Bobcat said, look up scuba clubs in the area. adventuredivers.com, scubadillos.org, divingrebels.org and finz.org come to mind. Each of these clubs (maybe not the last) meet monthly. Adventure will be the closest to your location in Richardson. Hang out with and talk to old farts in these clubs, there are generally several people there with experience doing pretty much anything and willing to talk about it. Get more experience and make friends with whom to make the hardcore dives - while checking out potential instructors in a low stress environment.

I'm planning to go on an Easter Egg hunt with one the clubs in April - while the diving will be shallow, I will probably use the opportunity to practice with doubles and maybe the drysuit (bane of my diving!). Three hours of air time gives me a chance to practice navigation and get thoroughly lost...

Again if you are looking for hardcore tech diving you will need to be prepared to travel and shell out serious money. Even down 50' (as it's been for a few years) Lake Travis is deep enough for Deco Procedures and advanced Nitrox. However there really isn't anything close appropriate for trimix training - instructors often go to the Texas Clipper or Oriscany (sp?) - or just let you fly them to Truk :-). I'm sure Larry could give a better estimate, but I know you can easily spend over $100 on gas for a single dive. I'm cheap and lazy, so trimix is not in my immediate future.

For the purpose of deep diving, there is need of experience in diving first.
Deep diving also need some necessary and special equipment with you.
Most important thing in deep diving is to set the oxygen mask with you.
