Your point is well taken, but the average content of prior Alert Diver magazines was only marginally more interesting than reading a phone book. There were a small number of topics that were written about repeatedly (if not ad nauseum) and the prose style left a lot to be desired. There was also the "enough about DAN, let's talk about DAN" thing going on where there was a lot of content geared towards persuading people to join DAN. AFAIK, the main way to read Alert Diver would be if you already belonged to DAN. I'm not saying that Alert Diver should morph into a straight recreational dive magazine, but having the content leavened with a couple of nice pictures and articles is OK with me.
