Off to a shitty start on my COZ vacation - need info

So I get up bright and early at 4:30 to begin my week of diving bliss in COZ. Load up the car, and fortunately decide to check the USAir flight status before heading to the airport. FLIGHT CANCELLED.

Spend the next 2 hrs on hold with USAir. Finally give up and contact Orbitz. Orbitz eventually gets a USAir rep on the phone. So instead of arriving in Coz around noon today, I'll be disgorged in Cancun at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon (god and USAir willing). On the bright side, I get to start tomorrow at 4:30 as well, and hey my bags are already packed!

Given my 3:30 scheduled arrival time in Cancun, will I be able to catch a ferry to Coz from Playa del Carmen, and what's the best way to get from Cancun to PDC? Or are there any other/better options to get to Coz from Cancun?

Wish me luck on take 2 manana.

Must be terribly frustrating.... do something very, very different in the meantime... I mean it very very different. don't do usual things. Your mind is somewhere else so take your body somewhere else...

The bus goes from Coz to Playa del Carmen takes about an hour. Somewhere on the internet find the map that shows you how to walk down to the ferry. It's going right out of the bus station. This fat old lady can do it, so you can. And i speak no Spanish, but people were helpful. There will be someone else on the bus who's going there too - there always is.
    You will be okay

Bus would be my option as well. You can google the bus schedule (Cancun airport to PDC) as well as the ferry schedule (PDC to Cozumel). If I recall correctly, the bus terminal in PDC is fairly close to the ferry terminal. There are several bus departures from Cancun airport that tie in with your arrival time so you won't be rushed (like 4:20, 5:10, 6 and 7 p.m.) Also, the ferry boats from PDC to Coz are regular as well, (like 7, 9 and 11 p.m.)

No doubt you could take a taxi but that would be more expensive. I would view the bus/ferry ride as a mini-adventure! Very doable! (I have done this trip in reverse a few years ago).

thanks to all of you ladies for your kind words

Fresh out of the shower, and ready to rinse and repeat with USAir manana. I'll post a Gruntlike update from Casa Mexicana if I ever get to Coz. It may not be planes, trains, and automobiles, but it's shaping up to be planes, buses and ferries.

In the words of Chief Dan George I shall 'endevor to perservere'.

Hang in there friend. Maybe the journey will have it's own upsides. Please take a pic of a plate of those awesome tacos and don't stoop to the gringo salsa :-)

I've done the trip from Cancun to Cozumel (and other parts of Mexico)--browneyedgirl is right a taxi will be more expensive, between 60-80 dollars if I remember correctly. The water ferries leave at regular intervals so don't worry. They aren't that expensive, like 20 U.S dollars or so. That trip should take about 45 mins or so.

    Good Luck.
    Rather be diving.

Wayne, that sucks. You may already be in transit on the bus, but if you have your iPhone etc and get a chance to read this, just so you know the bus stand is located to the far right end of Terminal 2. Go out the doors on arrival at either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and turn right on the sidewalk. Just keep walking until you hit the bus stand - the buses are modern air conditioned units. You buy your ticket from the ticket seller at the bus stand (about $US7 last time I did it). You will see buses for Cancun and Playa del Carmen - make sure you get on the right one ;^)

From the bus terminal in Playa, you head down towards the water and then turn right at the waterfront to the ferry dock - it is only a few blocks to the ferry terminus. Buy your ticket from the kiosk on the waterfront promenade. There are bicycle porters at the bus station who will schlep your bags for you for about a buck a bag. Make sure you get baggage tags from the ferry guys when they take them from you on the pier to store in the hold - you will need the tags to get your bags back on the other side.

When buying ticket, make sure you are buying one for the next advertised sailing - they have a board they hang up with the next sailing time for each company. Also, no good reason to buy a return fare on the ferry - there are two companies that alternate sailings - if you buy the return then you are stuck with coming back with the same company, so that will limit your schedule.

    Have a great time.
