About GILI IDC
- I am from the UK and have been working as a dive instructor for over a decade, during my career I have enjoyed amazing experiences, been privileged to have worked in some incredible places, worked with great people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds, have had a huge amount of fun and seen things that others only dream of!
I grew up in London and started diving as a teenager and took my PADI Open Water course on the busy island of Koh Tao. Having caught the diving bug I quickly progressed through the PADI education system, and settled in Utila to complete my Divemaster training. After working as a Divemaster in various locations I returned to Thailand to take my IDC and have never looked back!
During my career I have worked as an Instructor for several busy dive shops in The Caribbean, Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines, Australia and Indonesia. From the outset I really wanted to experience working in different diving roles so took positions on liveaboard expeditions in the Coral Sea, within dive resorts and have also managed a variety of PADI dive shops, ranging from the small islands of Malaysia to the concrete jungle of Sydney’s Bondi Beach. I have enjoyed fantastic diving and worked with inspiring people. I now live and work on Gili Trawangan in Lombok where I run a busy IDC schedule as well as professional level continuing education.
Having been fortunate enough to have dived on some incredible reef systems and seen jaw dropping marine creatures I want to do all that I can to help protect the marine ecosystem. I am active in teaching and promoting Coral Reef Conservation programs to my students and to the local community; I have run educational programs and organized beach clean ups with several schools and also managed several fundraising events, including raising the record amount of donations to Project Aware! I feel that it is incredibly important that we, as dive professionals, do all that we can to protect our environment and educate our divers about conservation initiatives; and I ensure that all of my Instructor candidates receive this training to pass on to their future students.
If I had to choose my favorite part of this job (it would be very difficult!) but working with and training future Instructors would have to be top; I have received several certificates of excellence for my commitment to Instructor candidates. I love being in a position to help them develop the skills, knowledge and attitude required to become successful and enthusiastic Instructors. During my career I have worked in a range of different roles and environments and had plenty of adventures and experiences along the way; I now incorporate all of the knowledge and expertise that I have gained, as well my love for diving and the dive lifestyle, into my IDC training so that my candidates can benefit from my experience. In doing so I feel I have created the perfect IDC course for those looking for a successful and rewarding scuba career and aim to help the next generation of PADI Instructors achieve their goals and become the best Instructors possible!
